“Gas prices are expected to continue to rise throughout the summer.

leftish:

Oil companies say it’s because of high demand due to warmer summer weather — as opposed to what they told us a couple of months ago, that oil prices went up because of higher demand for winter heating oil. So basically, if there’s weather, gas prices go up.”

What has happened to the Politics tag?

Once upon a time when one searched the politics tag there were pages of diverse opinions to read through.

It seems ever since the big shake up with the editors here a while back either very few are using the tag or somehow the tag isn’t being picked up by the tumblr system. I admit to not knowing how the system works but would love it if someone could explain what the heck has happened to the political posts that once appeared here?

Are you Romneys planning to take the country back from the Supreme Court that regards corporations as individuals, and thus allows your campaign to receive millions from corporate lobbyist groups? Or are you planning to take it back from the homeowners whose houses are under water as a result of the unregulated banks? Or are you going to take it back from the 99 percent struggling to keep a job or find one? Or the schoolchildren sitting forty and more in a public school classroom with insufficient supplies, struggling to learn? Are you planning to take it back from the president’s health care program, modeled on your husband’s health care plan in Massachusetts, so that health care will be returned to the insurance companies as a gift? Are you planning to take it back from those who allow their dogs to ride with them inside on a car trip, and would think it madness to have a beloved pet tethered to a roof for days on end? Do you plan to take it back from the scientists who have established global warming as a fact — one we are now facing with heat waves in the northeast and blizzards in the west. Or are you planning the take back of the reproductive rights of women which your Republican Congress and governors are so ready and willing to do? I hate to imply this, but I must ask, are you planning to take it back from those members of minorities, like our president, or the Hispanic population, people who have had the audacity to seek a place of power in this country, and who did not grab it, inherit it, or degrade themselves for it by pandering to those who have it all and want more? Or are you and your party taking it back from the poorest and giving it back as the lowest tax rate on the richest, assuring the best education, housing, and employment for the wealthiest, the world made safe for their own kind, and only their own kind?

Another Santorum FAIL!

Rick Santorum and American history just don’t seem to see eye to eye. But, fear not, Rick just re-writes history to serve his agenda of the day.

Santorum flunks the history of home-schooling

If Rick Santorum had been a better history student, he would know that presidents spent the first two centuries of American history working to support the education system he now wishes they disliked. Take Thomas Jefferson, founder of the University of Virginia and patron saint of today’s small government conservatives: He consistently expounded the virtues of public education. In his 1779 Virginia “Bill for the More General Diffusion of Knowledge,” Jefferson argued that without public schools, only the rich would be educated, leaving poor but potentially productive citizens unable to participate effectively in the democracy. “It is better that such should be sought for,” Jefferson wrote, “and educated at the common expence of all.”

In light of his comments Friday that President Obama wants to send students to college in order to “indoctrinate” them with a secular worldview, Rick Santorum might be especially chagrined to learn that in the Elementary School Act Jefferson proposed in 1817, he insisted that “no religious reading, instruction or exercise, shall be prescribed or practised.” Similarly, in “Notes on the State of Virginia,” Jefferson advocated for teaching “the most useful facts from Grecian, Roman, European, and American history” instead of the Bible. The point is, the American president who most eloquently promoted public education did so specifically, in part, to try to prevent the religious fundamentalists of his day from being able to use schools to indoctrinate children with religious beliefs.

I’m beginning to think it was Rick who should have been taking those home schooling classes that the people of PA were paying for while he and his family lived in VA.

Ooopsie Rick

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter said he would not support his former colleague Rick Santorum in his bid for the presidency, claiming that Santorum’s view on gay people and women are too extreme to “represent America.” “When you have Senator Santorum’s views, so far to the right, with his attitude on women in the workplace and gays and the bestiality comments and birth control, I do not think it is realistic for Rick Santorum to represent America,” Specter explained Friday morning during an appearance on MSNBC’s The Daily Rundown.

Even Pat Buchanan, a leader on social issues within the party and a former GOP presidential candidate, this morning warned that Republicans like Rick Santorum are overreaching in their opposition to contraception.

Let’s face it, when Pat Buchanan says you’ve gone to far chances are good that you really have gone too far.

I can’t imagine that Rick will get the message though. According to his wife he only has ears for God.

The Dalai Lama, when asked what surprised him most about humanity, answered:
“Man. Because he sacrifices his health in order to make money. Then he sacrifices money to recuperate his health. And then he is so anxious about the future that he does not enjoy the present; the result being that he does not live in the present or the future; he lives as if he is never going to die, then dies having never really lived.

Birth Control? Really?

This is really an issue in 2012? You know, the 21st century?

You’re trying to tell me I should take into account the opinions of a religious organization that has for untold decades harbored untold numbers of pedophiles? An organization that has, for centuries scrambled to cover up the REPEATED RAPING OF CHILDREN?

Just how far is the GOP willing to go to put women back in their “rightful” place?

  • BAREFOOT-RIGHTFUL
  • PREGNANT-RIGHTFUL
  • PROPERTY-RIGHTFUL

Real men don’t need to control women to prove their manhood.

Sadly, it seems, there are no real men running for the republican presidential nomination.

SEX,SEX,SEX and um SEX!

The GOP loves sex!

  • Sex is the root of all evil
  • Evil must be eradicated
  • Only republicans are qualified to exorcise evil
  • Democrats actually ENJOY sex
  • Democrats love the evil
  • Democrats are evil and must be exorcised

Once the evil, sex loving Democrats are eradicated, we, the republican champions of small government, will escort the American people woman back to the “good old days” when men were men and women and children were chattels through a series of government regulations dictating “proper” sexual conduct.

Once we have done this, the economy will be righted, there will be no deficits, every worker will have a job and America will be worshipped by all nations.

No, really this is true—JUST ASK ANY REPUBLICAN
